A brief history

2024

Makers Alley opens in the North Hills Innovation District (NHID). The vibrant tenant line up includes all local businesses owned by female and/or minority entrepreneurs.

2024

One North Hills Tower and 4114 Creative Offices open in the newly expanded Main District of North Hills, adding 346,000 SF of office space.

2023

Platform, a 442-unit apartment community located on W. Cabarrus Street adjacent to Raleigh Union Station in Raleigh’s West End, opened in October 2023.

2023

St. Albans Lofts break ground in August 2023 in the North Hill Innovation District (NHID). St. Albans Lofts will consist of 396 apartment homes across two buildings.

Channel House opens in the North Hills Innovation District (NHID) in May 2023.

The Main District Expansion project at North Hills continues to make progress with many of the buildings taking shape.

Construction is underway on multiple projects in the new North Hills Innovation District (NHID) including Channel House North Hills Apartments and Maker’s Alley experiential retail space.

Kane Realty announces AEG Presents will open a 3,500 capacity music venue at Downtown South district in Raleigh.

The Eastern opens, rising 36 stories above North Hills, making it the tallest residential building in Raleigh.

2021

Construction begins on Platform Apartments, a 6-story residential community with 330 apartments and 30,000 SF of ground-level retail space, in Downtown Raleigh’s West End District.

2021

Kane Realty begins construction on expansion of the Main District at North Hills, including a 12-story high-rise residential building, 346,000 SF of office space, 100,000 SF of street-level retail, and multiple new outdoor gathering spaces.

2020

Following Raleigh’s largest ever rezoning, Kane Realty kicks off planning for Downtown South, a transformational multi-phase, mixed use, entertainment based district in Downtown Raleigh comprised of 135 acres.

Kane Realty simultaneously opens Advance Auto Parts Tower in the Park District at North Hills and Vine North Hills Apartments in the new North Hills Innovation District (NHID), while also breaking ground on The Eastern residential community.

Peace Raleigh Apartments opens in Smoky Hollow Downtown Raleigh featuring over 400 urban apartments atop a Publix grocery store.

2019

Kane Realty breaks ground on Vine North Hills Apartments, a 5-story community with 326 apartments and structured parking, in the planned North Hills Innovation District (NHID).

2019

Kane Realty breaks ground on phase two of Smoky Hollow in Downtown Raleigh with 421 N. Harrington office building and The Line Downtown Apartments. The Hollow, an energetic pedestrian promenade activated with events and outdoor gathering areas, connects the two projects.

2018

Construction begins on the first phase of Smoky Hollow, a mixed-use, distinctive urban district revitalizing the northern gateway to Downtown Raleigh. The first phase consists of Peace Raleigh Apartments, a 12-story community with 417 apartments plus a large full-service grocery store on the ground level.

2018

The Dillon opens in downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District as a catalyst for revitalization of the area, Meeting Street Lofts opens in Charleston, South Carolina, and Kane Realty breaks ground on Advance Auto Parts Tower, a 21-story office building in the Park District at North Hills.

2017

Kane Realty simultaneously opens four projects in the Park District at North Hills — The Dartmouth, Park Central, The Cardinal, and Midtown Plaza as construction continues on The Dillon in Downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District and Meeting Street Lofts in Charleston, SC.

2016

Kane Realty breaks ground on its first out-of-state multi-family project, Meeting Street Lofts, combining two 5-7 story apartment communities, totaling 346 apartments, with 15,800 SF of retail space in Charleston, South Carolina.

2016

Kane Realty breaks ground on first project in Downtown Raleigh — The Dillon, an 18-story office tower with 40,000 SF of retail space and two six-story apartment buildings with a structured parking deck in the burgeoning Warehouse District.

2016

Bank of America Tower and The Dartmouth officially open in the Park District at North Hills as Kane Realty begins to acquire land adjacent to the Park District for a planned expansion to North Hills.

2015

Stanhope Student Apartments officially opens on Hillsborough Street adjacent to NC State University campus in Raleigh with 300 student apartments and 30,000 SF of ground-level retail.

2015

Five new projects break ground in the Park District at North Hills: The Dartmouth, Park Central, The Cardinal, Midtown Plaza, and AC Hotel.

2014

Kane Realty simultaneously opens Midtown Green, Midtown Park, and Allister North Hills Apartments while breaking ground on Bank of America Tower, an 18-story office tower in the Park District at North Hills.

2010

Park & Market Apartments, the first apartment building in Raleigh with elevator access to an integrated grocery store, opens in the Park District at North Hills. The 17-story CAPTRUST Tower opens as well, beginning the transformation of Midtown Raleigh’s skyline.

2008

Kane Realty forms Midtown Events to activate North Hills with lifestyle event programming, such as the Midtown Beach Music Series, Midtown Farmers’ Market, and North Hills Kids.

2008

Kane Realty delivers the first four-star Marriott Renaissance Raleigh Hotel for North Carolina’s Triangle region.

2007

Kane Realty partners with Concord Hospitality Group and breaks ground on the Renaissance Raleigh Hotel while demolishing 49 acres across Six Forks Road, a site that will become the Park District at North Hills.

2005

The Alexan Apartments at North Hills (now ‘Lassiter at North Hills’), a 5-story mixed-use building with 297 apartments, 325 garage spaces, and 40,000 SF of retail space transforms what it means to live at North Hills.

2004

The new North Hills officially opens with the Grand Illumination of holiday lights by the North Carolina Symphony and the North Carolina Theatre. More than 7,000 people attend.

2003

North Hills Mall closes its doors and is demolished to make way for Kane Realty’s vision of creating a new urban development that will transform the area into Raleigh’s “Midtown.”

1999

Kane Realty purchases the 120,000 SF North Hills Plaza shopping center across from North Hills Mall.

1978

Kane assembles investors for its first deal — reinvigorating a 220,000 SF shopping center in Greenville, NC.
